SUMMARY:Dean's Series - LEADERS of the FUTURE: Unleashing the Power of Psychological Safety ~ Dr. Amy Edmondson
DESCRIPTION:The past year has resulted in major disruptions to corporate strategies and operations as a result of the global pandemic\, digital transformation\, economic uncertainty\, and social discourse. As corporate leaders rethink how their organizations will perform in the future\, there is a renewed emphasis on creating an inclusive organization to encourage the development of creative\, innovative\, and productive teams. \n  \nFor many years\, Amy C. Edmondson\, Professor of Leadership at Harvard Business School and author of the book “The Fearless Organization” and Martijn Sjoorda\, Co-Founder\, The Fearless Organization\, have studied how creating psychological safety is the key ingredient to develop high-performing\, humane\, and resilient leaders for the future. \n Please join UCLA’s Professor Corinne Bendersky as she interviews our speakers and they discuss how to build competitive and innovative organizations in the future by: \n\nExploring the link between psychological safety and high performance\nCreating a speak-up culture where it’s “safe” to express ideas\, ask questions\, and admit mistakes\nNurturing the level of engagement and candor required to succeed in today’s new economy\n\n Each attendee will receive access to a survey to gauge your personal level of psychological safety in your organization.

SUMMARY:Dean's Series - FULL-SPECTRUM THINKING IN A POST-OUTBREAK WORLD ~ Dr. Bob Johansen
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Bob Johansen\, a distinguished fellow with the Institute for the Future in Silicon Valley and friend of HARRT\, has been doing ten-year forecasting for more than thirty years\, with remarkable accuracy. In this talk\, he will share his latest forecasts for the post-outbreak world\, with a focus on opportunities and threats for the human resources function. Full-spectrum thinking is the ability to seek clarity across gradients of possibility–while resisting the temptations of certainty and simplistic labeling. Bob will discuss how leaders can think in full-spectrum ways\, particularly across the spectrum of human/computer potential. Digital augmentation of humans will be mandatory to thrive in the future and Bob will provide his latest thinking about how leaders of the future can thrive in an increasingly digital world. \n*As a follow-on to this discussion\, Bob will facilitate a BOOK CLUB exclusively for HARRT Senior Executive Members on February 16 & 26. As part of membership\, each participating HARRT Executive member will receive a complimentary digital copy of Bob’s new book: Full-Spectrum Thinking: How to Escape Boxes in a Post-Categorical Future

SUMMARY:Annual Associate Symposium: Hosted by UCLA Executive Education
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by UCLA Executive Education \nJoin us for an invitation-only event featuring three exciting topics presented by UCLA faculty Bob McCann and Janna Shadduck-Hernandez and attorney Kathleen Erskine of Cohen Williams LLP. Professor McCann will discuss the impact that effective communication can have on your organization and the implications for your personal leadership. Develop the knowledge\, perspective\, and skills needed to lead your team and produce tangible results. Understand and practice cross-cultural communications. We will learn how to create a framework for leading a multicultural team to high performance. \n  \nProfessor Shadduck-Hernandez will present research findings from The Institute for Research on Labor and Employment on challenges of today’s 18 -29 years old Earners and Learners. These young workers are often working to support family members rather than have additional personal money for discretionary activities\, as has been the practice in the past. Also\, it is more difficult to find employment that will allow this generation to work and attend school. We will explore the issues these workers face\, and discuss what employers can do to engage these workers today while developing the workforce of the future. \n  \nMs. Erskine will discuss substance abuse and addiction in the workplace and the essential legal concepts surrounding an employee’s rights and employer’s obligations. She will provide an overview of how drug and alcohol abuse is treated under today’s laws\, including the limitations placed on employees with substance use issues by the disability laws\, which are generally protective of employees with physical and mental disabilities. Additionally\, she will explain the basic legal framework related to drug testing\, the impact of workplace drug policies and provide real-world employer examples including options in specific circumstances. \n  \nThe day will involve a mix of faculty lecture\, group conversation\, and small-group simulations – lunch is provided.
