Summary:

This Executive Education Session is designed to enhance financial literacy and business acumen, thereby enabling participants to become better business partners across multiple domains of an organizational setting. The following topics will be discussed to enable human resources professionals to become more conversant in the areas of financial and strategic performance. Major topics will include:

  • Building confidence in reading and analyzing financial statements
  • Understanding how financials are linked to the operating activities of an organization
  • Learning how to develop and evaluate pro forma (projected) financials
  • Understanding valuation techniques and methods by which value is built within an organization
  • Appreciating the vital role that integration strategy plays in capturing value in corporate development activities such as acquisitions or partnerships

About the presenter:

George T. Geis teaches at UCLA Anderson in the areas of strategic corporate development, financial modeling, entrepreneurship, and accounting. He has been voted Outstanding Teacher of the Year at UCLA Anderson five times. Geis has also served as Associate Dean and Faculty Director of UCLA Anderson’s Executive MBA program. He is currently Faculty Director of Anderson’s Mergers and Acquisitions Executive program.

Geis has taught at the Haas School, UC Berkeley, Bocconi University in Milan, Italy as well as at the Darden School at the University of Virginia. A National Science Foundation and Woodrow Wilson Honorary Fellow, Dr. Geis has extensive consulting experience and has published dozens of professional articles and six books. His latest book, Semi-Organic Growth, provides an in-depth analysis of Google’s innovative approach to M&A.
